Is there a source of information on the sizes of fasteners for the 1968 Triumph Bonneville? Some seem to be Whitworth, and others seem to be American. Right now, I'm trying to find the size of the nut that secures the front brake backing plate, but information on the other fasteners would be very welcome.

Yes, but most lists are based on part numbers. Do you have the part numbers for the parts you need or are you just looking for a complete list of all the hardware on the bike?
I would suggest that the complete list is going to be hard to get without the use of part numbers.
Regarding the one nut you need...
if you dont have the P/N then take the measurement across the threads and also determine how many threads there would be in 1". It shouldnt be too hard to figure out.

Thank you very much for your quick reply! Yes, I do have a parts catalog for the bike, and that particular nut is listed as "W1246 Anchor plate nut." However, I believe the old alphanumeric numbering system has been superceded by an all numeric numbering system, and the new part number would be 37-1246. Since I have part numbers for all the fasteners, is there some source I can go to that would give the Whitworth and American sizes? I'm trying to put together a tool kit that will fit all the fasteners. Thanks much!
The part you need is a 3/4"-20 TPI CEI nut. (cycle engineers institute)
If you are looking for a tool kit that would cover all of the sizes on the bike, you wont have to ID every bolt/nut first. Just simply get a normal Whitworth socket/wrench set that covers the basics and add to it as you need.
I suggest (to start) a 7pc, 3/8" drive socket set. King Dick UK makes a good one. They are $59.00 and the set covers 1/8"W-1/2"W. You can buy individual sockets in 1/2" drive after that.
A good set of combination wrenches would be the King Dick UK, 10pc Whitworth set. The cost is $243.60 and covers 1/8"W-11/16"W.
I really cant think of how much more you would need besides these two things, at least as far as Whitworth is concerned.
You may need metric or US style wrenches too of course!
The 3/4"-20 nut is an item I have in stock. They are zinc plated, steel and cost $6.90 plus shipping. A Whitworth 11/16" socket or wrench is required to turn them.
