We can learn a lot from you, our customers. When you are looking for specifics on certain fasteners, take out a ruler and measure out an inch of thread on the screw or bolt. Count how many threads there are in the inch and let us know. We can usually determine what you need on that alone.

Hello There, I am new to the forum and wondered if any one knows the size and type of thread used on the Triumph cylinder studs, connecting the crank case to the cylinder? I have one stripped stud and wish to purchase a helicoil set. The bike is a Triumph T100T Dayton 1967 500cc. I can not remove the stud until I have stripped the head and cylinder, so I want to get the helicoil so the bike is not off the road too long. I live in Sweden so its not so easy to pop down to Vale Onslows to get spares...

Any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards
Michael:)

Do you have a part number for it?
If not, you will need to take a few measurements...
I need the diameter of the stud (5/16" or 3/8" etc)
The number of threads per inch on the end that you require the helicoil for.

Part number would be easiest though...

Hi There,

I will try but I can not physically check the stud as I am working in Sudan and my bike is in sweden. I will try an get the part number through the Triumph club and will get back to you.

Thanks for the advice.

Best regards Michael

Michael,
I don't know if you are still looking for a cylinder base stud size for your Triumph, but the '67 500 has two studs of differing length, but the same threads. The part numbers are as follows: E3820, and E3819 old style numbers. The later Triumph numbering system labels them as: 70-3820, and 70-3819, respectively. According to the parts manual, the 3820 number, is the shorter of the two, at 1 1/2 inch, with 6 required, while the 3819 number is the longer, at 1 11/16 inch, with 2 being required. This is due to the presence of 2 hollow locating dowels that the longer studs fit through.
The threads are of two types and styles on either end of the studs. The side you are concerned with, (I assume), is the side that screws into the aluminum case, and it is a BSF thread of 3/8-20. The other side of the stud is of course a BSC thread of 3/8-26.
Therefore, if I read your post correctly, you need a helicoil in 3/8-20 BSF.

Hope this helps.

That being said, you can get a BSF 3/8"-20 helicoil kit here:
